The Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center is the premier facility of the Recreational Sports Department and includes the historic McDonald Gym. The Health and Human Performance Complex Building A houses the Lamar Indoor Pool. The Thompson Family Tennis Center and the Ty Terrell Track are also available for use by the Lamar community. With these stellar facilities, plus our outdoor Intramural Sports fields, there's something for everyone!
All Rec Sports facilities will begin closing procedures fifteen minutes before the posted closing time. Patrons must exit the facility at or before the posted closing time so that staff can complete required cleaning and restocking duties. Thank you for your assistance.

The Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center is a state-of-the-art facility offering 130,000 square feet of activity space. Highlights of the Rec Center include an indoor track, a forty-foot indoor rock climbing wall, a fitness center featuring the Cardio Theater audio/visual system, a full line of pin-select progressive weight machines, and a full array of free weights.
The Rec Center also houses a cafe, television and game lounge; group fitness studio; three basketball courts; five racquetball courts; a multipurpose court for badminton, volleyball, and table tennis; an outdoor putting green; and a fully-enclosed indoor soccer/floor hockey rink. Sports and camping equipment is available for daily and overnight rental at the Equipment Desk. Additionally, the Pro Shop offers Rec Sports-branded athletic apparel, sports and fitness equipment, and more.
Recreational Sports provides a 25-yard, 6-lane pool in the Health and Human Performance Complex Building A (across the parking lot from the Rec Center). This facility is open to all LU/LIT students, faculty, staff, and alumni who have a valid LU or LIT identification card. Pool depth starts at 3.5 feet and ends at 12 feet to allow use by all skill levels. The pool has a diving board, three starting blocks, and a basketball goal. We also host swimming classes, lifeguard certification classes, water safety instructor certification classes, CPR classes, and free water aerobic classes. A certified lifeguard is always on duty to ensure the safety of all patrons.
Home of the Lamar Men's and Women's Tennis teams, the Thompson Family Tennis Center is open to the entire Lamar community and features 16 courts and covered seating. The courts are open from dawn until dusk every day, except when in use by the Athletics department. Racquets and balls may be borrowed from the Equipment Desk in the Rec Center.

The Ty Terrell Track is home to the Lamar University Track & Field team. Named after Lamar's first full-time Track & Field coach Ty Terrell, the track was constructed in 1978 and features a Monsanto all-weather Astro-Turf facility with a granular surface. The track and field are open from dawn until dusk every day, except when in use by the Athletics department.
