SSC Event Services: Operations

Operations Managers assist with campus event production and operations of the SSC Event Services office. They set up all equipment, furniture, and other accommodations for on-campus meetings and special events.

These jobs are labor-intensive and consist mostly of moving furniture and equipment by hand between buildings on the LU campus.

Do not apply if you cannot safely lift and carry 50+ pounds, if you have current injuries, or if you have medical issues that prevent you from safely lifting and carrying heavy loads.

Assistant Operations Manager

  • Office support: greet visitors, answer phones, approve campus postings, file papers, run errands
  • Assist with daily event set-ups according to clients' time and layout specifications
  • Assist in production of large-scale events
  • Assist with set-up and monitoring of all technical equipment
  • Maintain organization of all equipment and storage facilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evening and weekend availability

Operations Manager

  • Supervise daily event set-ups and ensure spaces meet clients' time and layout specifications
  • Assign small-scale tasks to Assistant Operations Managers
  • Oversee set-up and monitoring of all technical equipment
  • Maintain organization of all equipment and storage facilities
  • Work closely with Lamar Activities Board, student organizations, and other clients for collaborative events

Required Qualifications

  • At least semester of previous experience as an Assistant Operations Manager for the SSC Event Services office
  • High attention to detail
  • Must be able to lift 50+ pounds without assistance

Senior Operations Manager

  • Office support: greet visitors, answer phones, approve campus postings, file papers, run errands, process event reservations, input reports, fill work orders
  • Supervise all Operations Managers and Assistant Operations Managers
  • Determine necessary daily and weekly tasks and delegate to OMs and AOMs
  • Submit progress and task completion reports
  • Review all event set-ups for accuracy
  • Assign on-call workers as needed for events
  • Oversee set-up and monitoring of all technical equipment
  • Train OMs and AOMs during workshops and as needed
  • Check organization and neatness of all audio/technical equipment and storage facilities
  • Work closely with Lamar Activities Board, student organizations, and other clients for collaborative events

Required Qualifications

  • At least one semester of previous experience as an Operations Manager for the SSC Event Services office
  • Problem-solving skills in booking space, assigning equipment, and troubleshooting under tight deadlines
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

Audio/Visual Technician

  • Advanced technical support: set up A/V equipment in meeting rooms, train clients on its operation, provide on-site support as needed
  • Maintain awareness of daily event schedule and all related information
  • Prepare equipment for use by clients in event spaces. Equipment includes public address systems, overhead and portable projectors, desktop and laptop computers, televisions, VCRs, DVD players, sound boards, spotlights, speakers, monitors, dry erase boards, etc.
  • Complete all daily equipment set-ups
  • Maintain orderly appearance in all event spaces and storage areas
  • Assist with resetting spaces after events
  • Check in with clients prior to event to ensure equipment is functioning properly
  • Serve as on-site A/V Tech for special events where technical expertise is desired
  • Operate light/sound board as appropriate
  • Inspect all equipment prior to use
  • Repair or report broken equipment
  • Relay pending items to replacement shift prior to being relieved
  • Document equipment inventory

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with or knowledge of A/V equipment
